Civil 3D relies heavily on a single processor core, so high clock speed matters most. For larger terrain models and point clouds, the amount of RAM and a fast NVMe SSD are also important. The graphics card matters less than it does in rendering software, but it should be certified and run reliably with Autodesk software.
For simpler projects, 32 GB of RAM is usually enough. If you work with large surfaces, dense point clouds or several files at once, consider 64 GB or more. Check the Autodesk documentation for your version of the software for the exact requirements, and take into account your own experience with project sizes.
Both platforms can perform well in Civil 3D. What matters most is high single-core clock speed, because most operations in the software do not scale well across multiple cores. Additional cores are mainly useful when you run other applications at the same time, for example for point cloud processing or rendering.
Civil 3D does not require a very powerful GPU, but a professional card (e.g. from the NVIDIA RTX Ada series or, formerly, Quadro) with certified drivers is recommended. This helps ensure the software runs reliably and is compatible with Autodesk applications. A more powerful card makes sense if you use 3D visualization, work with large models or use other graphics applications alongside Civil 3D.
Yes, a configuration built for Civil 3D usually handles AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks well too. However, match the specification to the most demanding program you use. If you need help choosing, contact a Hardware Direct advisor, who will analyze your needs and the size of your projects.
